Authorities in Colombia dismantled a transnational criminal network in Ibagué that used AI tools—such as deepfake technology, voice cloning, and chatbots—to impersonate U.S. diplomats and defraud hundreds of victims across several countries with fake visa and residency offers. Five suspects were arrested and multiple illegal call centers were shut down.
